This sounds like coffee, tea, orange juice, pastries — the whole breakfast bar. The songs are short and don’t overstay their welcome. It’s a beautiful dance between Regina’s vocals, the string sections, electronic keyboards, flickers of piano, plucks of guitar, and infectious bass grooves.
“Águas de Março” is one of the best opening tracks I’ve heard and sets the tone for the whole project. Elis’ expressive vocal style is exemplified here as they laugh within their vocal delivery or shiver on tracks like “Modinha”.
The flute sounds amazing on this album. I love how it interacts with the electric guitar on “Triste” and the string sections on tracks like “Corcovado”.
The vocals are mostly handled by Elis but when Tom jumps in on a few tracks their chemistry is wonderful.
The balance in tone is executed well between upbeat and somber tracks. There is never a stretch where I thought the album catered to one emotion or sound for too long.
| Overall, just wonderful production and arrangement by Tom Jobim. This is a lovely record to accompany your morning routine. |
